I came across Lingt thanks to
@josepicardo's post titled:
"Lingt: a web tool for language teachers". In his post he explained that "
Lingt is a very promising new tool designed for language teaching. It allows teachers to create assignments online into which you can add, images, text, voice recordings and videos, although currently only from YouTube, which could be a problem for some schools."
After reading his (as usual) well explained post, I decided to give it a try. Of course, as a teacher, you need to register for a free account to create assignments but the nice thing is that students do not need to register to view your assignment and even to submit their responses. To my view, this is a big plus as the registering process can often refrain our students to try a new web tool, especially if it is a tool assigned by teachers!
After registering, I created a class called grade 12. I decided to create an assignment for my 17 years old students who desperately need more speaking practice for their exams in January.
Then I created an assignment which was a very easy process. I could easily insert some text to explain the exercises and a picture that I wanted my students to describe. Then I included some questions I recorded with my own voice :). This took a bit longer as the recording didn't work a couple of times (maybe the website was too busy?).Nevertheless, my assignment was created in less than half an hour, which was brilliant.
I had booked the computer room the next day to show my students how it worked. My plan is to have my students do an assignment every week so that they become more confident in speaking Spanish. Unfortunately, the microphones didn't work in the computer room :( so I have asked my students to try it on their own computers at home and I am still waiting for their responses!
However, what cheered me up is that I received a response from a twitterer
@jeancharles. He recorded himself and answered all my questions :) I was very happy to receive a response and to see it could work. I could then try giving him feedback. You can either choose to give written or oral feedback. I chose to record myself and
sent my oral feedback to Jean-Charles, which worked perfectly.
In my opinion, Lingt is a very promising tool, I just need to make it work with my students now!
What about you? Have you tried Lingt?
