Playing with dice to practise French verbs and tenses.
This is a simple game that I found on the TES website http://www.tes.co.uk/ (thanks to seve who shared this great idea!).
To access the bank of great resources shared by other teachers, you need to register first but it is all free and easy.
Pupils roll a die twice to determine the
person and tense of a verb they have to come up with. They
play in pairs, filling in their grids with the correct form of the verb. The winner is the first
person to complete their grids. It can be adapted to any verb or tense.
So far, I have used this game once with a year 11 group (14-15 years old). We went through the verb aller (= to go) in the present tense, perfect tense and near future tense. I handed them out a grid with the subject pronouns and the 3 different tenses as well as a die. They just kept on going practising their tenses (maybe because thay had a die to roll!). Now, I just want to see if this has made a difference in their courseworks and also when they speak.
I am planning to use this game with year 9 as they are learning the future tense. This time the grid will include the subject pronouns and 6 different verbs from different groups (-er, -ir, -re), the pupils will have to fill in their grids in the future tense.
And you? what are you doing to make your pupils practise verbs and tenses?
